Take Two is an immersive deep-listening night consisting of two elements: an uninterrupted, high-quality playback of a seminal jazz album, followed by a modern-day reinterpretation by New York City’s finest musicians.
Our eleventh edition will feature Beyond The Wall, the 2006 spiritual suite from the jazz saxophonist Kenny Garrett.
The live reinterpretation will be arranged and led by Darius Christian, a genre-bending composer-trombonist who you may have seen alongside Rihanna, Solange, and Macy Gray to name a few. His quartet will guide us around the expansive soundscape that brought Tyner's and Coltrane's innovations into the 21st century:
> Darius Christian // trombone
> Yuma Sung // keyboard, piano
> Spencer Zahn // bass
> Joshua Bailey // drums
The date and location of this edition of Take Two are very special, as we will be hosting the event in a private barn with an outdoor space in Kingston, New York, on Juneteenth. The barn is very close to the birthplace of the abolitionist, women’s rights activist, and former slave Sojourner Truth. Suffice to say, this event will be honoring Black and African American freedom and achievements.
This day-long event with live music and DJs will feature our usual vintage Klipsch loudspeakers and comfortable seating arrangements, as well as a lake nearby if you fancy a dip!
